Making Up Your Own Mind by Rev. Frances D. Montgomery, NST

Rev. Norman Vincent Peale published “The Power of Positive Thinking" in 1952.  It was on the New York Times’ best-sellers list for 186 weeks, 48 of which were spent in the No. 1 non-fiction spot.

Before that there was the “Magic of Believing” by Claude M. Bristol, which was published in 1948.

It was this book to which the then 38 year old house wife, Phyllis Diller, attributed her total success.  The pianist Liberace also was inspired by reading and practicing the teachings in this book.

If you don’t like reading, both of these books are available in audio book form!   I understand the Dayton Metro Library have both in stock.

In these uncertain and basically negative times either or both of these books would make an excellent read or listen.  Of the two, I personally prefer the Bristol book.

You will learn that the subconscious mind cannot take a joke.  It basically acts as a recorder, cataloging every thought you think and everything you say.  The more negative things you say, the more negativity is reinforced in your being, attracting more negativity to you.  Conversely, every positive thing you say is also recorded and those thoughts/sayings attract positivity to your life.

Words have a tremendous impact on us.  That is why I attempt to use “desire” rather than “want” – de is French for “of the” and “sire” means Father, or creator, Spirit, God, Infinite Intelligence.   Want indicates a lack or need – something you would like or desire but do not have.  How much more forceful and positive to desire something than to want it!

Changing your outlook isn’t easy, old habits are difficult to break.  You have to work at rewording things, looking at the positive point of view.  You also realize you cannot change the world, the COVID health situation we are facing, the social and political unrest.  These things create life lessons for each person affected, in one way or another.  How we look at things, however, can impact how we are or are not affected.

Spiritualists know we only have the right to change ourselves and our vibrations.  We realize we cannot change others, and we do not have that right.  We also know each person brings on their own experiences by the way they react to situations in their own lives.

In our Declaration of Principles number seven: We affirm the moral responsibility of individuals and that we make our happiness or unhappiness as we obey or disobey nature’s physical and spiritual laws.

That is why we always send our prayer for the highest and best good of all concerned.  Spirit knows what is best for us and also what is best for the person we pray for.  Spirit also realizes better than we which experiences will assist in best teaching us or others how to grow the soul forward and back to oneness with the God Force.

You can take charge of your life and stop being a victim.  You can radiate power, peace and joy, because you know the law of love.  Once again I reflect on the little framed saying I have;
You do not have to struggle,
You do not have to fight,
You only have to KNOW.

If you KNOW something you don’t have to argue about it, you don’t even have to discuss it and you certainly don’t have to try to change someone else’s opinion – that rarely works anyway.  In that situation, it is frequently best to quietly listen to the other persons view, learn what you can from it but never let it provoke you into a disagreement over it.  If you KNOW there isn’t anything more to be said.

Debates were never meant to become arguments.  They were designed to provide two different views on the same topic.  They should help you understand the pros and cons of a proposal or situation.  We always learn more by listening than by talking.  Later, when you are mulling over what you heard, you can make your own better informed intelligent opinion.

Negative or Positive?  Whatever you select to attract, it is you who is in charge of your life through your Spirit given free will!

Why not GO FOR the positive?
