Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 verses 1 thru 8.

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born,
    And a time to die;
A time to plant,
    And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill,
    And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
    And a time to build up;
A time to weep,
    And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
    And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones,
    And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
    And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain,
    And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
    And a time to throw away;
A time to tear,
    And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
    And a time to speak;
A time to love,
    And a time to hate;
A time of war,

    And a time of peace

Apparently there is a time for everything.  Why, then is it so difficult to face some of the times mentioned in these verses?  If we understand what is said, there shouldn’t be a problem with facing the experiences the different times bring.  All of these happenings are a part of life.

Probably the most disconcerting single item among these verses is that they all indicate change – Heraclitus, an ancient Greek Philosopher said;  “The only thing that is constant is change” – and to this day that is an ongoing truth.

What is it that makes us fearful of change?  We know we are never alone.  We know Infinite Intelligence of God Force is always with us.  We know our guides and loved ones, relatives and friends in spirit as well as on the earth plane care about us.  Why are our souls so easily frightened when routines are altered?

Perhaps we should attempt to be more adventurous.  To embrace new things rather than shrink from them.

A friend and I have been ushering for the Dayton Victoria Theatre Association for a number of years.  Several seasons back VTA started sponsoring a National Geographic Series of three shows a season on Monday nights.  We have been fortunate enough to attend all of these shows.

Unlike some of the theatre offerings these start a bit earlier and you are normally out by around 9:00 PM.  I believe this series has been the very most enjoyable of all the shows I have worked.  The people who narrate them, show the pictures of their experiences.  These folks are not timid about adventures nor afraid of change.  I wonder how they become so open to unusual daily life styles.  They face hardships, they sleep in places I wouldn’t want to walk, they endure many discomforts with very little creature comfort handy.  These people exude life and enthusiasm, energy as well as a wonderful appreciation of this planet earth we call home.  They speak of and work toward conservation of the property, guarding waterways, preservation of the native plants, guardianship of the animals and regeneration in our world rather than destruction.  They are truly inspiring to hear and the photography is magnificent.

They apparently are the type of people who settled the New World and were explorers – going where no one had been.  What makes them different from you and me?

I cannot answer that but they inspire me to be less satisfied with the mundane, to take my life by the horns and grow my soul through new adventures.  If their lifestyle is not one I can embrace at least I can emulate the excitement in their soul and take pleasure in living my life to the fullest of my ability without fear.

The knowledge that Spirit is always with us should be enough to sustain us through all changes without fear.  As Spiritualists we own the understanding that we are never alone.  Let us go forward demonstrating that understanding with the energy that overcomes timidity and the strength of total trust.

God is with you, always.
