As we grow older we hear more and more about people in our lives with this or that life threatening illness or disease. We also hear of extensive medical practices people undergo to maintain life in the physical body.

Spiritualists spend a lot of time talking about life after death. For the younger person, that seems a long way off - not relevant to where they are in life. They usually aren't interested because they aren't anywhere near that point in their lives. They are only starting out on the pathway of college, selecting careers, establishing themselves in their chosen field of work, or perhaps marriage and starting a family. Personal Responsibility is a large part of our Spiritualist beliefs. As Spiritualists we do not accept the theory of vicarious atonement - the belief that Jesus was crucified to atone for (or fix) our sins. This is the basis of most Christian beliefs.
